How I LIVE UNITED
My name is Karthik…
Hailing from a developing nation, I always had the impression that life in a developed nation would be more sophisticated, with better communities, better education, less pollution, and a healthier lifestyle. To my surprise, I still saw families that don’t have a roof over their heads, children that struggle to get through high school, neighborhoods that are left to rot, and families that even struggle to put food on the table. On the other side, I saw generous and kindhearted people who are willing to spend their time and money to help our community’s disadvantaged families. United Way has opened up a new world that was unknown to me. The Day of Action volunteer opportunities have not only inspired me, but also others because I share my experiences with my friends and colleagues after every event. I really look forward to getting my hands dirty again and cleaning up neighborhoods, helping children to get ready for school, enabling families to reduce their financial troubles — and making a better community that thrives united by living united. Because I don’t just wear the shirt, I live it.
