Why 2-1-1?

In 2008, 2-1-1 answered 169,879 calls.  People called regarding 146 different needs and 2-1-1 made 195,538 referrals to 1,995 agencies.  36,682 (19%) of these were referred to programs that improve self sufficiency: programs addressing needs such as GED, Earned Income Tax Credit, financial planning, literacy, career counseling, etc.

Launched by United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and its partners in 2004, 2-1-1 is a referral help line for community services in Middle Tennessee and serves all of Davidson County as well as 52 other regional counties. Available 7 days a week, 24 hours and staffed by trained specialists, 2-1-1 supports a database of more than 7,000 social, educational and health services offered by nonprofits, government and public agencies, community, civic and professional organizations, sliding-scale clinics, and churches and congregations, among others.
