HIV/Aids Prevention & Services
Making a Difference
Total funds invested by United Way of Metropolitan Nashville in 2008 were more than $7.5 million. Here are some of the results achieved through HIV/AIDS programs that received funding:
- 42,000 people received information on HIV prevention
- 19,580 at-risk individuals participated in multiple education sessions on HIV prevention
- 1,813 HIV/AIDS clients benefited from case management through services
- 737 people received oral health care
- 3,100 individuals received some type of social service.
Grant Information
- United Way of Metropolitan Nashville manages four federal grants, two that come through the State of Tennessee’s Department of Health and two through the Metropolitan Public Health Department. Three are from the Ryan White Treatment Modernization Act (Part A and B) and the remaining grant from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Ryan White Part A funding supports nonprofit agencies that provide HIV/AIDS core medical and support for patients and families across 13 counties in the Nashville Transitional Grant Area. This grant unites outpatient ambulatory medical care, AIDS drug assistance program (ADAP), medical case management, oral healthcare, early intervention services (EIS), substance abuse services-outpatient, mental health services, AIDS pharmaceutical assistance, food bank/home-delivered meals, medical transportation, and emergency financial assistance to reach more than 3,000 people.
- Ryan White Part B partnerships support nonprofit agencies that provide HIV/AIDS care and psychosocial support for patients and families across 39 counties in Middle Tennessee. This grand unites non-medical case management, transportation, food bank/home-delivered meals, and oral health care services and reaches more than 900 people.
- More than 42,000 individuals were served through the CDC grant. The funded organizations provide education, presentations and workshops for HIV prevention/education, counseling and other services.
United Way of Metropolitan Nashville has released the 2010-2011 Ryan White Treatment Modernization Act Part A RFP. Interested agencies must provide care to infected and affected individuals with HIV/AIDS and must be located in one of the Transitional Grant Areas which consist of the following counties: Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Macon, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson. Interested agencies must attend a Pre-Bidders Conference on November 4, 2009.

Agencies that come together and LIVE UNITED through these grants include Clarksville Area Ministers Technical Assistance Network (CAMTAN), Columbia CARES, Inc., Comprehensive Care Center, Metropolitan Interdenominational Church/First Response Center, Nashville CARES, Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee, Street Works, Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency, and Women Maintaining Education and Nutrition (W.O.M.E.N.).
