Did you or your family earn less than $57,000 in 2011?

There are two types of FREE VITA sites: Traditional and Beehive. A Traditional VITA site allows clients to come in to a designated facility and sit down with an IRS-certified volunteer who prepares your taxes for you. Individuals and families who have earned up to $49K in 2011 qualify for this service. A Beehive VITA site allows clients to come in and prepare their own taxes using tax preparation software on the VITA site computers, with assistance available from an IRS-certified volunteer. Individuals and families who have earned up $57K in 2011 have the option of using the Beehive VITA sites.

For hours and a list of VITA sites near you, call the United Way 2-1-1 Helpline by dialing
2-1-1 directly from your phone.

What is VITA?
VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.  It is a nation-wide program operated by volunteers from January 15 - April 15. Volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS, and then prepare FREE tax returns for families and individuals earning less than $57,000.

In 2010, more than 7,500 families received free tax preparation at one of the 18 VITA sites located throughout Nashville. Because of free tax assistance, Davidson County VITA clients saved more than $1.8M in tax preparation fees because they chose VITA instead of paying the $250 in fees and interest that paid tax preparers typically charge.
