Family Teaching Kitchen Volunteers
Volunteer with Family Teaching Kitchens!

United Way’s Women United in Giving is partnering with the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Metro Parks & Recreation, and the Nashville Public Library in a critical study to prevent childhood obesity. Join us in helping families in at-risk neighborhoods develop healthy lifestyles by volunteering, advocating, and giving to the Family Teaching Kitchen initiative.
Here are ways that you can help:
Teaching Kitchen Set-Up
Family Teaching Kitchens offer families an opportunity to learn how to prepare a healthy meal and give families the chance to try something new! Volunteers are needed to help with set up. Set up includes putting together take home bags for participants, getting the tables and chairs in place, setting the table and setting up demo stations. We also want the room to look inviting and fun, so we’ll be blowing up balloons and hanging our banners!
Time required for activity: 2 hours
Volunteers needed: Minimum 5, Maximum 10
Teaching Kitchen Support
Do you enjoy cooking, being a good hostess and entertaining? Volunteers are needed to help during the Teaching Kitchen. Opportunities include leading a demonstration table, greeting guests and checking guests in as they arrive, helping families get drinks and food, encouraging positive conversation during meal time and of course, cleaning up our mess! You’re guaranteed to learn something new!
Time required for activity: 2 ½ hours
Volunteers needed: Minimum 5, Maximum 10
