What is R.H. Boyd Society?

The R.H. Boyd Leadership Society offers members a range of unique opportunities to LIVE UNITED through philanthropic giving and volunteering. The Society also provides the opportunity to network with other like-minded individuals through a variety of educational, leadership and social engagements.

Society membership is based upon annual giving of $1,000 or more to United Way of Metropolitan Nashville.  Each year, United Way invests more than $10 million in hundreds of programs that aim to improve the landscape of education, health, income and neighborhoods in Nashville. Over half of that investment will be directed toward programs that serve a client base that is more than 52 percent African-American.

Increase Donors

Through social, educational and personal development opportunities, the R.H. Boyd Leadership Society will encourage increased financial support of United Way’s mission through education in two areas:

  • How the African American community benefits from United Way-supported health and human service programs
  • How African Americans actively participate in United Way’s efforts to advance the common good in our community.

Recruit Volunteers

The Society will broaden opportunities for greater representation in decision-making and policy formation in Nashville’s nonprofit community.

Cultivate Leaders

The Society will identify and recruit African-American leadership level donors to give $1,000 annually, and will encourage annual increases that also allow participation in United Way’s Cockrill Society ($5,000 annual gift) and Tocqueville Society ($10,000 annual gift).  African-American philanthropic leaders will also have the opportunity to participate in customized training to enhance their leadership skills, enabling them to make a greater difference in the African American community.
