Gifts of Security

In making gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds, donors may realize a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the gift for tax purposes, while avoiding capital gains taxes. United Way of Metropolitan Nashville has accounts established at many brokerage firms in the Nashville area; often times, donors simply may transfer stock to the United Way account.

Gifts of securities also may be completed by mail. Donors wishing to make gifts of securities should contact United Way’s controller, Summor Beach at (615) 780-2451 for instructions.
