United Way’s Response to the May 2010 Flood
While we are heartbroken on the loss of life and property, we are inspired by the Nashville spirit that is rising to this incredible challenge. Many victims of Nashville’s May flood are still struggling to meet a myriad of needs.
Restore the Dream Centers: United Way has organized community resources utilizing a “platform” it developed over the past decade to serve some of Nashville’s neediest neighborhoods. United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and six of its partner agencies opened five Restore the Dream Centers on July 8 to work one-on-one with individuals and families who are struggling to put their lives and their homes back together in the wake of the May Flood…click here for more information.

Historic Nashville letterpress and design shop, Hatch Show Print, has graciously donated the design and printing for 250 Limited Edition, hand-made prints specifically designed to benefit United Way of Metropolitan Nashville’s Restore the Dream Fund. A beautiful coincidence, she wrote this song in January and finished production last week just before the rains began. She is giving 100% of the proceeds to United Way of Metropolitan Nashville’s “Restore the Dream” Fund.

Dial United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline or refer to www.211tn.org, a database of more than 7,000 local health and human service programs.
Visit one of United Way’s ‘Restore the Dream’ Centers that opened in early July, a database of more than 7,000 local health and human service programs. The Centers will have on-site trained case managers who will work with individuals to design feasible solutions to meet their needs. Through a series of in-depth questions, the case managers will gain a thorough understanding of each victim’s specific needs and bring together the mix of services that victim will need to make progress toward restoring their life.
Visit www.donatenashville.org. Donate Nashville connects real needs, no matter how small or unusual, with practical, community-based solutions. This is a partnership between Nashvillest, CoolPeopleCare, Symfony Group, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and members of the Nashville Tech Community.

- Tax Assistance for Property Loss: There are two sites that can help flood victims prepare amended 2009 returns for casualty loss. St. Luke’s Community House (phone: 615-350-7893) and Woodbine Community Center (phone: 615-833-9580). Assistance is available by appointment until October 15 (This deadline is an IRS imposed final date).

What is the “Restore the Dream” Fund?
As the community shifts from the “rescue and recovery” phase to the “restore and rebuild” phase, United Way has activated its Restore the Dream Fund established more than a dozen years ago to support service agencies during and after disasters, including structure and infrastructure restoration.
