NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 13, 2011—United Way of Metropolitan Nashville is aiming to shrink the growing obesity problem in the community through an innovative initiative designed to bring healthy lifestyles to Nashville’s neediest neighborhoods.

United Way’s Women United in Giving – a group of community leaders committed to making a greater impact in the city – has launched a new initiative called Family Teaching Kitchens to help tackle obesity at its roots in Nashville.

2010 Campaign Awards

Despite challenging economic conditions and the aftermath of the May flood of 2010, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville’s 2010 Campaign saw the largest year-to-year percentage increase in the last decade. Thanks to those who helped us reach this tremendous achievement…the 400 companies representing 50,000 employees who hosted workplace campaigns and the more than 280 members of our Alexis de Tocqueville, Alpha Chapter.

• United Way of Metropolitan Nashville’s 2010 Campaign grew this year from $14.1 million dollars to $14.5 million dollars

Relief to Japan Earthquake Survivors

United Way of Metropolitan Nashville has established a means by which the Nashville community can provide aid to the people of Japan suffering from the effects of the devastating earthquake, the tsunami and the resulting damage.
