Neighborhoods Day of Action
It was a Day of Action in the great outdoors! Nearly 75 volunteers, community residents, and UWMN staff worked worked together on May 30 to conduct clean-ups in areas served through United Way’s “building strong neighborhoods” programming. Often, in disadvantaged neighborhoods where poverty levels are high, residents don’t have the knowledge, experience, or equipment they need to affect positive change. (Residents are twice as likely to NOT have a high school diploma, compared to Davidson County residents overall. 29% are below the poverty level.) The programs that United Way of Metropolitan Nashville helps fund through partner agency Neighborhoods Resource Center provide residents the leadership and training they need to improve conditions such as codes violations, drug trafficking, public transportation and truancy — on their own. The efforts shown by volunteers and residents alike on Saturday are what LIVING UNITED is all about!
