2010 Campaign Awards
April 29, 2011Despite challenging economic conditions and the aftermath of the May flood of 2010, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville’s 2010 Campaign saw the largest year-to-year percentage increase in the last decade. Thanks to those who helped us reach this tremendous achievement…the 400 companies representing 50,000 employees who hosted workplace campaigns and the more than 280 members of our Alexis de Tocqueville, Alpha Chapter.
• United Way of Metropolitan Nashville’s 2010 Campaign grew this year from $14.1 million dollars to $14.5 million dollars
• $750,000 dollars given by donors through the Restore The Dream Fund for post-flood recovery, which puts the 2010 Campaign total to over $15 million dollars
The success of the campaign is not only measured by dollars raised but also by the impact of those dollars and the value United Way brings to our community. In that spirit, here are a few statistics that don’t have dollar signs in front of them:
• In the past 9 months, more than 1,200 families have been served by six United Way Restore The Dream Centers
• Through United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline, we helped over 200,000 callers in 2010 connect with resources to meet their needs
• In 2010, nearly 30,000 individuals accessed resources to meet their needs right in their own neighborhoods, through more than a dozen United Way Family Resource Centers
• Through United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, more than 7,500 families received critical cash refunds of more than $14.5 million in 2010
• 98% of United Way’s Read to Succeed pre-school children in some of Nashville’s highest risk neighborhoods are ready to learn when they start kindergarten—that’s up from 33% just five years ago
In addition, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville received $7 million in other corporate and foundation grants and put $14.5 million dollars back into the local community through the VITA program. When you add these totals, we can identify a minimum of $37 million that is made possible by your participation. Yes, the dollars are important, but because the United Way is at work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, what we are able to accomplish with those dollars makes lives across our community better
