A Message from United Way of Metropolitan Nashville

United Way of Metropolitan Nashville sends our prayers and thoughts to all who have been affected by the flood disaster. We have been working behind the scenes and want to update you on the leadership role we have taken and will continue to uphold.
United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and our partner agencies will need your help in our volunteer, advocacy, and giving efforts throughout the next phase of this catastrophic event as we help restore our community.
Please continue your volunteering and advocacy efforts by spreading the following message to your friends, families and neighbors with particular attention to the important role 2-1-1 is playing during this disaster. This message is going to over 20,000 of United Way’s friends. Imagine the impact to our community if each recipient tells 5 people about 2-1-1.
United Way’s Leadership Role In Times Of Disaster and Recovery
- United Way’s primary leadership role in times of disaster is that of long-term restoration.
- The primary point of coordination in emergency situations is the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management and a network of first responders such as EMS, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Hands On Nashville, and Second Harvest Food Bank. United Way funds many of these first responders on an ongoing basis.
- United Way’s 2-1-1 Help Line takes calls 24-7-365 and has connected more than 3100 callers in need with help since Saturday. That is about 300% more calls than usual.
- Through United Way’s connectivity with 2-1-1 callers and provider programs, United Way collects data that provides an accurate and real time assessment of needs that will inform the deployment of community resources on a long-term basis. Visit 2-1-1 online now.
- As the community effort moves from rescue to restoration, United Way will be the key point of contact for community needs and those who can provide resources and services.
- United Way has activated and will build the community’s Restore the Dream Fund, a special fund created more than a dozen years ago to support service agencies during and after disasters. This is an ideal way to ensure that people in need are impacted in an accountable framework through the nonprofit network.
United Way gifts are at work in the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year helping to build the community’s capacity to respond to human needs. In the aftermath of a natural disaster such as this, United Way is helping fortify resources where they have been depleted by extraordinary demand.
