Lunch With Nashville’s Most Influential Leaders

December 07, 2011

In 2011, more than 100 Tocqueville Society members attended two Alexis de Tocqueville Society Leadership Luncheons. The purpose of the luncheons is to thank members for their continued support and to provide an opportunity for members to learn from and network with some of Nashville’s most influential leaders.

The spring Leadership Luncheon was held at Gaylord Springs Golf Links Clubhouse. Despite torrential rains, the event was well attended and included Mayor Karl Dean, 2011 United Way Board Chair Margaret Dolan, 2011 Campaign Chair Bob Dennis, and Alexis de Tocqueville Society Chair Roy Jordan. The luncheon theme, “Leadership in Times of Crisis: Effectively Managing Through a Disaster”, was highlighted by keynote speaker, Gaylord Entertainment Chairman & CEO and Tocqueville Society member Colin Reed, who shared his experience in leading his team through one of Nashville’s worst natural disasters, the May 2010 flood.

The fall Leadership Luncheon was held at Sunset Grill in Nashville and featured Mayor Karl Dean as the keynote speaker. Mayor Dean revealed to Tocqueville Society members his plan to increase college graduation rates in the city through The SCHoLAR’s Academy program.

Following Mayor Dean’s speech, Roy Jordan presented long-time Tocqueville member Ken Melkus with a Titans game-winning football in recognition of his inspirational leadership in recruiting new Tocqueville Society members in 2011.
