Noritz Donates Water Heaters to Flood Affected Households Through Restore the Dream Centers

December 29, 2010

Flood survivor households who have registered for case management with one of the five United Way Restore The Dream Centers are eligible to receive a new tankless water heater donated by Noritz, the world’s largest manufacturer of tankless water heaters. The gas appliance maker has shipped more than $50,000 worth of water heaters to Nashville and United Way Restore The Dream Centers are in the process of accepting requests for the energy efficient appliances. Additionally, United Way and Noritz are partnering with Piedmont Natural Gas to install the water heaters at a discounted price. “Noritz wants to help those affected by the Nashville Flood by donating a tankless water heater to homeowners while supplies last,” said Bob Hitchner, Noritz senior vice president of sales, marketing and business development. “The units will save more than $1800 over the life of the appliance as compared to typical tank heaters,” he said. The donated water heaters, typically priced at approximately $2,100 retail, produce 8.4 gallons of hot water per minute based on a 45-degree temperature rise, Hitchner said. “Appliances, especially water heaters, are currently among the items most needed by flood survivors who are still working through the recovery process,” said Phil Orr, senior vice president of community investment for United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. “We have identified a number of families who need a water heater immediately to continue their path toward recovery, but not all of the water heaters are spoken for,” Orr said. Families who need water heaters and have already registered for case management at one of the five United Way Restore The Dream Centers are urged to contact their caseworker at the Center where they signed up or call the United Way 2-1-1 Helpline. In addition to their energy efficiency, the Noritz products feature endless hot water, high volume capacity, space saving designs and extended life products, Hitchner said. WAY RESTORE THE DREAM CENTERS are located in Bellevue, Northwest Nashville, Bordeaux, Madison and Antioch, and they act as conduits to connect the generosity of donors to the recovery need that is still widespread in the community. Since they opened in June, almost one thousand households have registered and are receiving recovery support through the United Way Restore The Dream Centers.
