“The hearts and minds of United Ways around the world are with the people of Japan,” said Eric Dewey, President and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. “Having recently experienced a natural disaster here in Nashville [the May Flood] and due to our partnerships with the Nashville offices of Japan-based corporations Nissan and Bridgestone, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville is specifically concerned with aid efforts to our friends in Japan.
“Despite communications disrupted by the disaster, we have now been successful in connecting with our United Way in Japan - Central Community Chest of Japan,” Dewey said. “They are safe, but they have not been able to contact all of the local Community Chests in disaster-stricken areas. Central Community Chest of Japan has created one central fund and is collaborating closely with government, local businesses and other relief organizations to coordinate response on the ground.”
