United Way Day of Action Brought Nearly 50 Volunteers Together
May 04, 2009NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nearly 50 volunteers put together 200 book bags, containing a total of more than 500 books at a recent Day of Action volunteer event at United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. The book sort-a-thon benefitted children served through United Way-supported Parent and Caregiver Education programs.
Surveys show that 50% of children in Tennessee are cared for through informal settings outside the home by family, friends and neighbors, rather than in a formal day care classroom. The volunteers who participated in the book sort-a-thon and previous book drive are helping United Way provide resources to these important caregivers.
