NASHVILLE, TN, August 20, 2010—For over 50 years, Bill Cochran has given of his time and financial resources to United Way of Metropolitan Nashville. His dedication to service and volunteerism was recognized Friday, August 20, 2010.
Northwestern Mutual presented a $10,000 check to United Way’s Read to Succeed program on behalf of Bill Cochran.
“Nashville would be a different place without United Way,” Bill said on Friday, “and I am convinced that our young people are going to thrive with their help. Our community will win.”
Bill founded Team Tennessee for United Way of America Tocqueville Society, producing 7 new societies in the state and increased membership by 60%. He is also responsible for ‘Next Generation’ Tocqueville Society, designed to enable young professionals to step up their giving over a three-year period.
For the last two years, Bill has become a full-time volunteer and outstanding advocate for United Way’s Read to Succeed Program. The initiative allows Nashville’s most vulnerable children to receive essential reading skills for a successful academic start.
The Northwestern Mutual donation will support one Read to Succeed classroom for a year.
