Family Resource Centers: Christy

Single parent Christy grew up in public housing and lives in Cayce Homes with her 4 children. And she wants better for them. So she makes sure they participate in pre-school and youth programs at the Martha O’Bryan Family Resource Center in her neighborhood. But she knows that in order to really help her family move out of poverty she needs to help herself, too. That’s why she enrolled in the center’s GED program and is on her way to completing her education. Last year, United Way’s network of Family Resource Centers helped 28,000 individuals just like Christy, many of them needing multiple services to address a host of individual and family needs. And all of them working to reach the stability so often denied them by poverty.
