The Event

Summer 2010 Day of Action: Neighborhoods

With many of Nashville’s at-risk neighborhoods recovering from the recent flood, more Nashville students than ever will lack the supplies they need to go back to school prepared for success.

Thank you for LIVING UNITED by helping us Stuff the Bus with school supplies for kids in at-risk Nashville neighborhoods. Over 50 companies engaged through supply drives or by employees volunteering. Together, more than 120 volunteers stuffed and delivered 2,100 backpacks with STUFF THE BUS!essential school supplies. There were more than 34,000 school supply items donated. Together, you delivered backpacks to 48 benefiting Family Resource Centers and Partner Agencies.

Once we filled up the backpacks, we boxed up the extra supplies for PENCIL Foundation’s LP Pencil Box, whose facility was flooded in May. The thousands of school supplies you donated, sorted, and delivered will send Nashville kids back to school prepared for success. The generosity of our donors and volunteers in this Day of Action will positively impact the future of these children.

“Many of our parents find themselves in financially difficult situations trying to purchase necessary school supplies…for their children. United Way’s Stuff the Bus event helps to greatly ease some of that burden.”
