Level Up for Literacy

Level Up for Literacy

United Way of Greater Nashville is building classroom libraries for our community's elementary schools.

Postponed until Fall 2020.

Two out of three Nashville third-graders are not reading on grade level. Studies have shown that if children cannot read on grade level by the end of third grade, they are five times more likely to drop out of high school.

Together, we're providing access to books, promoting classroom literacy and working to accelerate reading skills. Our goal is the creation of classroom libraries in our community's most in-need schools.

Ways to get involved:

  • Donate books. Encourage your employees, family and friends to purchase and donate new children's books from our Amazon Wish Lists between March 2 and April 10. Donate directly to the cause or start purchasing books
  • Host a book drive in your workplace. To register your company, contact Megan McGuire and receive your book drive tool-kit.
  • Form your volunteer team. Recruit your colleagues to join us April 15 where we’ll sort and label the books by reading level and create grade-appropriate classroom libraries. Click here to register
  • Become a Days of Action sponsor. Build your brand while supporting the work of United Way through sponsorship. Sponsors will receive recognition and benefits for all three Day of Action events throughout the year.
