Level Up for Literacy

Level Up for Literacy

United Way of Greater Nashville is building classroom libraries for some of Nashville’s most at-risk elementary school students.

Volunteer registration is now closed for Level Up for Literacy.

Two out of three Nashville third-graders are not reading on grade level. Studies have shown that if children cannot read on grade level by the end of third grade, they are five times more likely to drop out of high school.

Together, we're providing access to books, promoting classroom literacy and working to accelerate reading skills. Our goal is the creation of classroom libraries in Nashville’s most in-need schools.

Ways to get involved:

  • Host a book drive in your workplace. To register your company, contact Courtney Barlar and receive your book drive tool-kit.
  • Form your volunteer team. Recruit your colleagues to join us March 28 where we’ll sort and label the books by reading level and create grade-appropriate classroom libraries. Volunteer registration is now closed for Level Up for Literacy.
  • Become a Days of Action sponsor. Build your brand while supporting the work of United Way through sponsorship. Sponsors will receive recognition and benefits for all three Day of Action events throughout the year.
