2019 VITA Taxathon
On Feb. 16, we hosted our second annual Taxathon in celebration of our 15th annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance free tax prep program.
Each year, IRS-certified volunteers offer free tax preparation services to individuals and families who earned $66,000 or less per household in 2018, helping qualifying individuals receive important credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit that lift millions out of poverty each year.
Last year, the average taxpayer spent $273 to file returns at paid tax service providers. In 2018, VITA volunteers completed 14,390 returns, helping taxpayers save more than $3.9 million in tax preparation fees and bringing more than $17.7 million in federal refunds back to the community.
Now through April 15, United Way is partnering to operate 26 VITA sites throughout Middle Tennessee. Taxpayers may file for free at www.unitedwayfilefree.com.
