Free Tax Prep Program Kicks Off Across Middle Tennessee

Individuals and Families Earning Less than $66,000 in 2018 are Eligible for Free Tax Prep Services

Jan. 28, 2019, NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Today, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and partner agencies launched the 15th annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance free tax prep program.

IRS-certified volunteers offer free tax preparation services to individuals and families who earned $66,000 or less per household in 2018, helping qualifying individuals receive important credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Child Tax Credit (CTC) that lift millions out of poverty each year. Now through April 15, United Way is partnering to operate 26 VITA sites throughout Middle Tennessee, including eight locations in Davidson County, five in Williamson County, one in Wilson County and three in Rutherford County:

Davidson County

Taxpayers may also file online at UnitedWayFileFree.com. Last year, the average taxpayer spent $273 to file returns at paid tax service providers. In 2018, VITA volunteers completed 14,390 returns, helping taxpayers save more than $3.9 million in tax preparation fees and bringing more than $17.7 million in federal refunds back to the community.
